A lot went down during this World Cup (as well as in the lead up to it, not to mention after it ended) on the race and identity front (and Daedra has vertigo), hence the episode length. Race & Rosé Special Delivery: Juneteenth

On this special delivery episode of Race & Rosé (this is another in-between-seasons special delivery ya'll), we discuss Juneteenth - the day that the last enslaved persons were formally freed in Galveston, Texas on June 19th, 1865.  We cover the history behind the holiday and a bit on how it's related to Critical Race Studies (more to come on this in our next episode). We also delve into the fact that Juneteenth just became a federal holiday - the first new federal holiday since MLK Day in 1983 - and what this means (and does not mean) for our country. Cheers!

In this episode of Race & Rosé (this is an in-between-seasons special delivery ya'll), "Special Delivery: Racism x The Royals," we discuss the recent Oprah x Meghan Markle interview. We initially only planned on covering the British Royal Family's (and the United Kingdom's/Great Britain's) history of colonization and enslavement. But, the interview opened the media and "influencer" floodgates, and everyone decided that they needed to voice an opinion on how Meghan Markle racially identifies, and whether or not she really even gets to call herself Black. So, naturally, we had a little something to say about that too. Enjoy! 

Race & Rosé Episode 4: Black History Month Part 3

In episode 4, "Black History Month Part 3" (the final episode of Season 0), we explore the links between Black history and the stories that we have been told - and are still being told - about ourselves and about Blackness in this country. We investigate the link(s) between Black history and media, representations of the Black family, incarceration, and music. And, as per usual, we throw a lot of shade. Enjoy!

Race & Rosé Episode 3: Black History Month Part 2

In episode 3, "Black History Month Part 2" we take the deepest of historical deeeeeep dives, discussing the history behind the history of Black History Month ("BHM"). We talk about Carter G. Woodson, the creator of Negro History Week (the predecessor to BHM), Abraham Lincoln, and Frederick Douglass. We may even spend a good amount of time dragging the ultra racist 1915 film Birth of a Nation. Who knows? Give us a listen and find out!

In episode 2, "Black History Month Part 1" we discuss Black History Month, media, marketing, PR and "the culture."  We also delve into the interconnectedness of all forms of racism in the United States, and specifically address the racism plaguing the Asian American community, considering both its deep historic roots and its recent surge.
